Frequently Asked Questions.
Who do you work with?
There is no ‘typical’ Jessop client. Jessop clients come from a variety of walks of life and range in age from their 20s to those in retirement. We work with a wide range of individuals, families and trusts.
What do you charge?
We are remunerated by fee only. The level of the fee will depend on the size and type of your assets. Please contact us to discuss our charging structure in more detail.
Why do you only charge fees?
We only charge fees because we feel that it is important that you know that we are being remunerated by you and you alone. This means that we are completely independent in the recommendations that we make.
Do you have a minimum portfolio size?
We believe that our services are particularly effective for those with at least £250,000 of liquid, investment and pension assets or those who will shortly attain such a level.
What is an Accredited Financial Planning Firm?
The Accreditation is granted by the Institute of Financial Planning (IFP) and is only issued to those firms that have been assessed as offering the highest professional standards of Financial Planning service and advice to their clients. There are only 44 firms in the UK that have attained this standard.
In order to gain approval, Jessop had to demonstrate commitment to a full Financial Planning service for its clients as well as to the IFP’s Code of Ethics and Practice Standards and ensure that its advisers are qualified to advanced levels of technical competence. Jessop also had to show that it has a transparent fee structure and a clear and robust investment philosophy.
We are proud to be Sheffield’s first, and currently only, Accredited Financial Planning FirmTM .
What do your qualifications mean?
There are approximately 1000 CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERCM professionals in the UK. A CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER professional has undergone a rigorous international competency test and is required to meet ethical and professional practice standards.
There are approximately 1750 Chartered Financial Planners in the UK. A Chartered Financial Planner has achieved a high level of technical competence, equivalent to a first degree.
Ben Westaway is also a qualified Chartered Accountant.
We believe that by attaining the highest level of qualifications, we demonstrate our commitment to our profession and our desire to ensure that our clients have confidence in our abilities.
How do you invest your own money?
Our directors’ investments are invested according to the same philosophy that we recommend to our clients.
We think that this is important because it shows that we practice what we preach. We wholeheartedly believe that the philosophy that we espouse is the right way to invest. We would be apprehensive of making an investment with a manager who does not operate in this way.
How do I get started?
Please contact us for an initial meeting. This will be held at our office and will be at our expense. The meeting will enable you and us to decide whether we wish to work together.
Will I be tied into a contract?
Our terms of business are very flexible and can be terminated at any time by either you or us.
